This Awful Evening

It was a night/one evening/that terrible time that started out so promising/hopeful/well-intentioned. We were excited/eager/looking forward to a good time/an unforgettable experience/something memorable, but it quickly went downhill/took a turn for the worse/turned into a disaster. I can't even begin to describe/put into copyright/recall clearly how terrible/awful/horrible it all was. It felt like/seemed like/was as though everything that could go wrong/happen poorly/turn out badly did.

The food/drinks/ambiance were disappointing/atrocious/simply awful. The music/entertainment/company was terrible/unbearable/just plain weird. And to top it all off, there was a major incident/a series of unfortunate events/some serious chaos.

This Wasn't

Honestly? This/This whole thing/The situation get more info wasn't what I had in mind. I envisioned a glamorous/an exciting/a challenging experience, not this. Where's the adventure/thrill/sparkle? All I see is tedious paperwork/endless meetings/stale coffee. I feel like a misfit/fool/pawn in someone else's game/this crazy circus/the grand scheme of things. I just want to hit the eject button.
